It's never too late: by Rose Donlon

I just wanted to tell all of you out there: if you are thinking you are too old, too overweight and too far gone to ever improve yourselves..... I have news for you-POPPYCOCK!!!!!!  I am 46 years old, 4'11" tall and am living again for the first time in 20 years. I say this because I was a healthy young specimen 20 years ago. I was an active young person and a dancer which consumed most of my spare time.  After I graduated from high school, the dancing stopped, the sitting escalated and so did my weight. I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea and plantar fasciitis.  Life events like motherhood and job stress took a toll on ME.

Over the course of the last year, I have lost 41 pounds so far, have stopped smoking and am doing about three hours a week of cardio. Why am I telling you this? Because I was the person who could not get off the couch, could not get off the carbs..... until I just put a little effort into myself, like walking from the farthest space at the shopping plaza and concentrating on my eating. Then eventually I got into a nutrition and fitness program at the Buffalo Cardio Pulmonary Gym and I am on my way!!!  I am going to try and lose another 40 to 50 pounds. I have a very small frame and I really did some harm to myself. The beauty part of it is, I feel like I did 20 years ago! My energy and ambition for daily activities and life in general have increased dramatically. I have never eaten a piece of cheesecake that I thought I needed physically, spiritually or mentally that can give me the "high", or the satisfaction of a 6 mile ride on my bike without batting an eyelash.

Dr. Ferrelli can give you advice and insight on some great programs. If you are not interested in high-voltage cardio, go for Body Well Being Pilates and yoga!  My advice to you: no matter where you are in age, physical ability or activity level..... YOU CAN DO IT!!!!  Your body is your temple, treat it like one! Best of luck to all!

As a nurse for 35 years I do a lot of research before picking a doctor. I have been a patient of Dr. Ferrelli's since 1999. She has gotten me through many "issues" with my feet.

Dr. Ferrelli's practice includes not only the latest techniques but also a holistic approach. She is kind, caring and knowledgeable. Her professionalism is rivaled only by her integrity and wonderful bedside manner. Over the years I have given her office number out to many family and friends. No one has ever been disappointed. She once told me "These are you feet…you will need to walk around on them every day for your entire life…you need to take care of them". That is some of the best advice I have ever been given……It is SO TRUE!!!

As a nurse I am on my feet for long periods of time (13 hour shifts to be exact). I had plantar fasciitis which was almost debilitating. I thought that I would never walk without pain again. Today I can't even remember which foot it was that had the problem!!

My latest issue was a bunion that was getting worse. The last thing that I wanted to do was have surgery!!...but I put myself in Dr. Ferrelli's capable hands and went ahead with it. While I would never say that having surgery is "nothing to worry about" I did feel very confident not only with Dr. Ferrelli's knowledge and professionalism, but also with her morals and medical values. She told me that as long as I did what she told me to do I would be fine. I did just that and the bunionectomy (that some friends and family strongly advised me not to have because "they heard" that it was VERY painful) was one of the best things that I ever did for myself. Did I have pain afterwards? I suppose perhaps occasionally a slight discomfort (which was never as bad as the pain caused from the bunion itself). I took the pain pills as she instructed "one when you get home, one before you go to bed and another in the morning when you get up"…I took these as directed and then never took another!! My foot looks normal again, I wear all different kinds of shoes and I am PAIN FREE!!!...... Through it all, Dr. Ferrelli's VERY competent staff took care of all of my paper work for the two disability insurance plans that I had. I never missed a check or had a problem reporting my progress to my place of employment. There is ALOT to be said for that!!......Now my other foot has developed a bunion….I will have the surgery again and this time I will not hesitate.

I highly recommend this wonderful doctor and her awesome staff….you won't find a better place for your foot care needs!!....Remember…As the good doctor said…"They are your feet….you will need to walk around on them every day for your entire life….YOU NEED TO TAKE CARE OF THEM"!!!!!

As a letter carrier, I was experiencing significant fatigue and stiffness at the end of the work day. Since being fitted with orthotics, the stiffness is gone and the fatigue has been reduced dramatically. The orthotics have provided a major improvement to my quality of life.

I have had foot support problems for about 25 years. I have tried custom (plaster) orthotics, full, partial, plastic, leather, you name it. While they made my problem better, they weren't the "end all". Then I tried off the shelf orthotics from the store. These partial orthotics were surprisingly better than the custom plaster ones, but they too were not perfect. Then, luckily, I was referred to Dr. Ferrelli, who fit me with custom orthotics. They are absolutely wonderful. They are the "end all" and I no longer have "agony of da feet". I recommend them to my friends who have foot problems and to anyone else who suffers from what I had gone through.

I came to Dr. Ferrelli's office in the Fall of 2010 and was diagnosed with planter fasciitis... had alot of pain in my left foot. For the next year and a half I wore an insert (not the medical term!) in my shoes and did foot exercises. I had some relief, but at the end of the day, always had alot of pain. I am 55 yrs old, and thought, I cant imagine going the next 30 yrs with this pain. Dr. Ferrelli did mention, very thoughtfully, that loosing some weight could help. Of course that is always difficult, so I didn't really consider it, however this past April I started a weight loss program with my chiropractor, whom I love and trust. I lost 29 lbs. in 8 wks, going from 185 lbs to 156 lbs., and the very first thing I noticed was I had no more pain in my foot!! I have kept the weight off and still no pain at all whatsoever in my foot. I could hear the words of Dr. Ferrelli and realized how right she was. My blood pressure medication has been drastically reduced as well and I'm hoping after my next trip to my Dr. I will be off it completely.

I hope this will be an encouragement to whomever may be where I was with my foot pain. You can do it !!
